The scholarship

We are offering 10 scholarships to young people (aged 18 to 30) as a part of our new Green For Youth project. Born out of a desire to provide purpose, and leave a long lasting impact on the lives of our local youth, the successful applicants will design and innovate an operating market garden that is climate resilient, adaptive, and rehabilitative.

This project has been developed to explore regenerative systems with an emphasis on agriculture and personal wellbeing. The aim is to empower and enable local young people to positively affect their local communities. This will be achieved by providing the knowledge and skills to lead sustainable environmental initiatives.

By providing hands-on experience and education, we hope to inspire a new generation of environmentally conscious individuals who are equipped with the skills to make sustainable choices in their personal and professional lives.

The scholarship is a commitment of two days per week, over an 8 month period. There is flexibility in how we will schedule this requirement. Within that commitment the chosen ten will be provided with an organic food box to take home each week, and guided through:

  1. Regenerative Agriculture Curriculum: the knowledge and skills required to produce regenerative and organic food. These modules will be equally theory and practical learning. See Appendix A.

  2. The design, innovation, and implementation of a market garden: the cohort will have access to Green For You’s network of mentors, advisors, businesses and local leaders, to identify how to best co-design a regenerative system for our locality. Once designed, the cohort will then implement. See Appendix B.

  3. Market garden management: First-hand experience in running an operative market garden. This will include training in designing a system that is climate resilient, financially viable, and supported by the community. See Appendix C.

It is exciting to note that our regenerative farm in Federal will be looking for support, and farm-hand positions will come available as the farm expands. This is a deliverable we will firstly be offering to those that have completed the program. Additionally, by fostering strong local connections to contribute to a resilient and regenerative community, graduates of our program will likely build the connections they may require to enter the entrepreneur landscape.

Applications are to include:

  1. An up to date resume / CV with two references. If you don’t have two professional references, you can supplement with a personal reference.

  2. A brief paragraph (150 word limit) outlining why you are suitable for the scholarship

  3. Answers to our supplied question document

Eligibility:

  1. To be eligible applicants must have finished school, and be in the young person age bracket of 18 to 30 years old.

  2. It is recommended that applicants reside in the Northern Rivers, or within a reasonable distance from our Federal Farm NSW 2480.

  3. The project requires two days per week, over the span of six months. There is flexibility in how we will schedule this requirement, but to be eligible you must be able to fulfil this commitment.

  4. The successful applicants will be considerate, passionate, conscious young people who are looking to be a part of something that will provide them with purpose or serve to explore an already identified interest in regenerative action.

Selection process:

  1. The applications we receive will be assessed on merit and overall suitability. Our board, composed of local leaders, will be included in the selection process.

  2. Applications will be reviewed as they are received. The deadline for applications is the 14th of June 2025.

  3. Following on from the application deadline, Green For You will compile eligible applications and present them to the board, who will collaboratively come up with a consensus of stand-out applicants.

  4. Chosen applicants will then proceed to the interview stage. The board will then reconvene and select the ten recipients based on overall suitability to the project.

Course guide information will be released soon.

Appendix C - Managing an operative market garden

  • The experience of designing, expediting the development and managing of a regenerative market garden and future agriculture hub will provide local youth with inspiration, self-efficacy and promote a lifelong journey of wellbeing.

  • Building community and circular economy principles by including a composting component where the cohort are required to collect community food waste. Here in building the capability of young people to turn their environmental concerns into action. Promoting resilience and a positive life-long impact whilst simultaneously combating climate change in the most effective way.

  • Economic and environmental impact through the providence of a secure food network. The program will help young people gain new environmental knowledge, skills and networks by facilitating the development of grower seller relationships.

  • Green For You aims to close the loop on food waste by implementing solutions at a local scale. By addressing consumption patterns, challenging resource efficiency and implementing circular economy principles we close the loop on the process and complete the natural cycle.

Closing the loop on food waste allows for a major reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and the creation and support of long term and sustainable local jobs.
